Understanding Diamond Clarity: A Beginner's Guide

When it comes to buying a diamond, there are many things to consider, such as the carat weight, cut, color, and clarity. Among these factors, clarity is one of the most important, as it can greatly affect the overall appearance and value of a diamond. In this beginner's guide, we'll take a deep dive into diamond clarity and help you understand everything you need to know before making a purchase.

VVS1 Diamonds: Are They Worth the Money?

VVS1 is one of the highest clarity grades and is considered to be of extremely high quality. But the question is, are VVS1 diamonds worth the money?

While VVS1 diamonds are considered to be of very high quality, they may not be worth the extra expense for everyone. Since the difference in visual appearance between VVS1 and slightly lower clarity grades, such as VS1 or VS2, is often minimal and difficult to detect it may not be worth the extra investment. Overall, the average person will not be able to detect a difference in clarity between a VS2 and a VVS1 making it an unnecessary expense.

Should I buy a Higher Clarity or Color when purchasing diamonds?

It ultimately boils down to preference, however generally the highest color grade a person can detect would be G color and the highest clarity a person can detect is VS2 clarity. That being said when buying diamonds loose or in jewelry, it is best to seek a option the carries G-H color and SI1-VS2 clarity. These options will not only save you a lot of money, but it will also look very shiny and clear in jewelry.

Are GIA the Best Diamonds?

While GIA is a highly respected diamond grading organization, it's not the only certification that should be considered when purchasing a diamond.
Many independent grading companies are just as good and may save you some money while making your big purchase.
